Brownstein Group Named Best Place to Work for 2014 by Ad Age
Ad Age ranks the brand communication agency among 40 companies nationwide on its annual list of best places to work in advertising and media
PHILADELPHIA, PA – November 17, 2014 – Brownstein Group (BG), the longest-running independent brand communication agency in Philadelphia, has been honored as a 2014 Best Places to Work award recipient by Ad Age, the leading global source of news, analysis and intelligence for the marketing and media community. Now in its fourth year, the annual list comprises 40 advertising and media companies from across the United States and is compiled through an employee survey distributed to nearly 20,000 people.
The annual “Best Places to Work” program is more than a list; it is a survey, study and award program to identify the best employers in the advertising and media industry across the country, as decided primarily by each company’s employees. Employees were surveyed on questions about workplace conditions, management team, work-life balance, respect and caring for employees, fairness of pay, recognition of accomplishments, career development, and good teamwork, all of which helped to measure aspects of the workplace environment that contribute to an engaged staff. A second survey containing about 100 questions was administered to employers, with questions pertaining to hiring practices, benefits packages, salaries, office perks and workplace design. Nearly 20,000 people were surveyed as part of the selection process.
“What makes this award so special is that it’s voted on by our employees. We’re in the business of branding and at the end of the day, the internal brand we’re creating for our employees is equally important to everything else we do,” said Marc Brownstein, President and CEO of Brownstein Group. “The values, talent and passion that each employee brings to the table has helped shape our unique culture, and this award is a testament to the entrepreneurial spirit and vibrant atmosphere we’ve tried so hard to cultivate.”
Brownstein Group has developed several programs to show appreciation for employees’ creativity, hard work and extra efforts. Each holiday season, Brownstein Group honors the contributions of one special employee, voted on by their peers, with the “Berny Award.” Named after company founder Berny Brownstein, the Berny Award is a monetary reward given to the individual who best exemplifies the values and spirit of the company and who has made a significant impact on the agency and its clients. The Agency also offers employees unlimited paid time off, a pioneering policy in the industry, among other HR benefits.
Brownstein Group is extremely supportive of employees’ extra-curricular side projects and hobbies and often promotes their personal work, products and events through our corporate social media platforms. The Agency also encourages employees to spend time together outside of work hours with free weeknight yoga classes, an agency-sponsored softball team and volunteer opportunities with local Philadelphia charities.
“With hundreds of companies applying and going through the rigorous employer and employee survey process for the 2014 Ad Age Best Places to Work list, the competition was tough. The organizations that rose to the top are incredibly deserving,” said Natalie Zmuda, deputy managing editor at Advertising Age. “In today’s dynamic business environment, talent is a key differentiator. The leadership teams we’ve honored have perfected the art of recruiting, developing and retaining talent, setting their firms apart from others in the advertising and media world. And they’ve carefully, thoughtfully crafted a culture and a work environment that anyone would be lucky to be a part of.”
“We talk a lot about living our values and winning this award is a true testament to our efforts in doing so,” said Brownstein. “From the beginning, we have made it our mission to create a great place to work that attracts and retains highly talented, smart and energized individuals because we know the success of our business and our clients’ business is dependent on a healthy and happy workforce.”
