Berny Brownstein and His Recent Mural Featured on The Drum.com
PHILADELPHIA (July 27, 2016)– Brownstein Group Chairman Berny Brownstein’s love affair with art all started with a contest during “Flower Week” in first grade. From there, teachers made it a point to encourage Berny in his artistic endeavors, leading to a scholarship at the prestigious Simon Gratz High School and then to the University of the Arts. After founding Brownstein Group in 1964…well…the rest is history.
Last week a new chapter in Berny’s life began when the long-time artist teamed with the famed Mural Arts Program to unveil a mural, entitled “Wild Tuscan Lilies” at 23rd and Sansom Streets.
“I went over to see it and I turned the corner, it absolutely straightened me up,” said Brownstein. “It took my breath away. To see that, that big, it was sort of an out of mind experience. The compliments have not stopped coming in and the congratulations have not stopped coming in. People just loved it. It’s not like I put up a big abstract, where people say, ‘Oh well. I don’t understand it.’ It was a beautiful Tuscan scene and everybody loved it.”
