The Sartorialist is coming! The Sartorialist is coming!
As far as fashion and the people who photograph it are
concerned, New York, Paris and Milan seem to be the only places
that matter. It doesn't appear likely that Bill Cunningham will
make it to Philadelphia anytime soon.
But Philly is soon to become a stop for Scott Schuman of The Sartorialist, a blog
that celebrates street fashion photography and the anonymous people
who inspire it.
At the beginning of April, Schuman announced on the blog his
plan to add Boston and Philly to his "rotation." What's more, he
asked readers for advice on where to find great style and
architecture in each city.
I offered my own humble advice, South Street and University
City, both of which turned out to be popular suggestions, if you
scroll through the hundreds of comments on his blog
post. Other Philly locations that turned up pretty often were
Rittenhouse Square, Northern Liberties, the Navy Yard, Old City,
West Philly and Manayunk.
After all the comments, Schuman wrote that he'd have to push
back his visit a couple of weeks so he can take proper time to plan
out an itinerary, given the outpouring of advice he received.
Some people mentioned City Hall as one of the buildings that
Schuman has to check out. Fancy that, right down the street from
us!
Imagine being stopped on Broad Street by a stranger with an
expensive camera telling you how great you look? Probably the best
start to a work day that I can think of, assuming that I haven't
spilled coffee on myself yet.
