Inspired by Pork

Since 1987, the National Pork Board has used "The Other White Meat" to promote - in this carnivorous writer's opinion - the tastiest of all meats. That ended last week when the board announced a new tagline: "Pork. Be Inspired."

The change was made because the pork board wanted folks to know that pork is "delicious, versatile and can stand on its own" with "no need to rely on comparisons with other meats." These are all true statements. I know this because I read their press release.

Frankly, I wish they would have gone with either "Fueled by Pork" or "Pork. Catch the Fever!" but, you know, that whole swine flu thing...

Pork is not ditching "The Other White Meat" entirely. The tag has been relegated to "heritage brand" status, although I think that's just a fancy way of saying you will soon be able to purchase faux-retro distressed pork logo t-shirts at your local Target.

If you're in Philadelphia, and you aren't porkspired enough to make your own pork dish, here are a few of my favorites:

- Fresh roast pork sandwich at Jake's Sandwich Board
- Carnitas tacos from Garces' Guapos Tacos truck
- The SHAME Burger at The Wishing Well (technically there's pork in scrapple, I think...)
