Direct(est) Marketing

Chat Roulette. It's not for the faint of heart. But we can learn something from it. Right?

We can learn people don't realize they're always one screenshot away from a ruined political career or 15 minutes of interweb-based fame. We can learn that you're one "next" click away from confronting a lonely middle-aged man, or said lonely middle-aged man's unmentionables. But as advertisers, we learn that there's a new toy people are playing with. And that we should play with it too. You know, for research. Because if we've learned one more thing, it's that when brands play with people, they create a memorable experience. And when they do, people will talk about it.

Take this guy for example (be warned-the audio does contain some NSFW words).

He really teaches you what we've been saying for years. You have less than five seconds to grab your audience. How do you do it? Market directly to them. I mean right to that 13-year-old girl who spends 23 hours per day weeping over Justin Bieber.

Sweatshirt guy does it right. Speak to your audience. Make them laugh, and they'll listen. Kudos. Someone should make this guy a pro and pay him to peddle glasses or sweatshirts or a PSA for not airing your dirty…laundry…in front of a web cam.

Now sing me a song.
