Homelessness Advocacy Group Checks-In to Foursquare

A new social awareness initiative uses check-ins to the location-based service Foursquare to benefit those who don't have a location they call home. The Urban Ministries of Durham (UMD) and the Durham, NC-based agency McKinney created check-in spots around the city such as the "trashcan behind the restaurant" and the "tent under the overpass." Curious Foursquare users who view these spots will see "tips" posted by UMD inviting them to check-in, spread the awareness to their friends via their social media profiles, and visit the UMD website for more information. According to their website, this is part of a multi-faceted social media campaign developed by UMD and McKinney.
